Easter Weekend Traffic Report for Austin TX |
Due to the unusual nature and extent of street closures scheduled for this weekend, it is recommended that you avoid IH-35 on Friday evening and Saturday evening if possible.Due to a high volume of traffic expected for the Texas Relays, several exit ramps from IH-35 in the downtown area will be closed, as will a number of surface streets. Please read the following message from the Austin Police Department for details. It is Spring-time in Texas, that means; "Texas Relays" at the University of Texas, Austin, April 4th thru 7th.
During the "Extreme" amount of traffic and crowds generated by Texas Relays; Friday, 4-6-07 and Saturday, 4-7-07 the Austin Police Department, City of Austin - Right-of-way Management, and TX-DOT will close several streets to vehicles in the E 6th St Entertainment District and IH-35 corridor. The following closures will be in effect: Friday evening 8pm to 6am & Saturday closures will be from 3pm to 6am. The street closures will be posted NO Parking and vehicle left inside the closure areas will be towed by APD.

· Riverside Dr. between Lamar Blvd and S 1st St will be closed during festival hours, approximately 11am to 11pm, daily. Please forward the information on street closures and traffic congestion to those in your organization who would need to navigate around town on these dates.APD and TX-DOT will prepare a joint Press Release concerning traffic issues and street closures surrounding the Texas Relays weekend. If there are questions please contact Lt Boydston, APD - Special Events Unit at 974-5213
