New Construction in Southwest Austin |

Meridian is one of the new Southwest Austin developments that has done quite well. There are approximately 275 platted lots in the neighborhood and about 185 homes built so far. There are at least a dozen homes under construction right now and several are complete and waiting for new families to move in. Construction on homes in Meridian began in 2006. Builders in the neighborhood include: Wilshire, Newmark, Meritage, David Weekley and Standard Pacific. Homes range in size from 2000 to 4500 square feet. The smaller homes are in the front section and were the first to be built. As you go further back in the neighborhood, the homes become larger. Prices range from the $290Ks on up to $650K. Currently there are fifteen or more homes for sale, several homes that have been designed and are in the early phases of construction as well as lots where you can build a floor plan of your choosing.

Solar Engergy Homes in Austin |

The city of Austin has a goal of making zero energy homes cost effective by the year 2015. This year UT students are completing a zero energy home for a national competition. As we continue to learn about global warming and the harmful effects of coal fired power plants, more people will demand solar energy and eventually zero energy homes. Currently in Austin there are about 300 homes with solar electric systems, and about 10 homes with solar panels are for sale as of 11/1/07. If you are interested in installing solar panels, Austin Energy provides a huge up-front rebate that will cover the majority of the cost.
